Rosemist Update …

I have friends in real life (yes, I do!), that don’t do Second Life. For them, and for you if you don’t, take a walk around Rosemist Isle.

You can find my video on my Flickr stream, or watch the full version (!) right here.

The Spring Season Challenge

As you may have read, I’m a fan of Strawberry Singh’s photography, despite not really being that interested in fashion in any world. It’s hard to find clothes to fit a small overly-curvy wolf in SL and it’s even harder to find clothes to fit a short and rounded female in the real world so I keep well away from fashion trends and thank my lucky stars if it just fits.

Beer and Blossoms

Beer and Blossoms

I like to have a go at Berry’s Blog Meme Challenges, though; it’s a great way to keep posting and it lets me play more with my photography. I’ll never be a professional in either world, but if it’s fun and I’m learning then that’s good enough for me. So here’s my picture for her Spring Season Challenge and my answers to her questions. The more you read my answers, the more you’ll be happy to ignore me, should you see me out and about messing with blog stuff. I’m pretty darned boring.

What is the Spring season like where you live?
In the UK, it varies. In my part of the UK it doesn’t vary. It rains. However, even in my part, the Cherry trees and the May blossoms will make a very welcome appearance and snowdrops, daffodils and croci will appear in gardens all across the country. All those things are synonymous with Spring as far as I’m concerned, but it’s really the blossoms and daffodils that do it for me. What’s not to like?

What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Spring?
Blossoms and daffodils. When I was a child we had a multitude of both in our garden and they were stunning. It’s a link back to the past and I guess it’s now a trigger for feeling Spring-like. One of my favourite cities that I recently visited has a bank full of daffodils in Spring – you have a few weeks to catch them at their best if you’re lucky. I actually managed it this year and was there on Saturday. Fabulous!

Which Spring-themed SIM is your favourite at the moment?
I could make a list (heh – read my blog?), but I do like Calas Galadhon in the Spring and that’s why my picture is taken there. Be honest, though … if you can answer this in one go, without thinking, you either own said SIM or don’t get out much, right?

You can find one of the many Calas Galadhon SIMs here. Take snacks, you’ll be there a long, long time.

Calas Galadhon

I know that if I did a whole blog about this collection of SIMs, it would not do them justice. I really believe them to be the most incredible vision and offering for any lover of virtual beauty. The size and variety of what is on offer is staggering. As is the attention to detail. One SIM alone has a representation of the RL island of Santorini – they call it Armenelos. You can go in the houses, walk up the white-washed paths and dance on the hilltop.

Calas Dreaming

Calas Dreaming

For my sojourn there in order to blog, I found a comfy place in the main SIM (called, not surprisingly, Calas Galadhon). Looking out across the lake all one would need is a lover or a good book (or both – or a lover IN a good book?) and you’d be sorted. I had my SL camera, so that worked for me.

I also visited Mirromere, because I know about the caves. My husband and I have romanced there, and got lost in the beauty as well as the tunnels. I went for a swim for the purposes of a shot for this blog … and yes, I kept all my clothes on.

Mirromere Swim

If you haven’t been to the Calas Galadhon SIMs, then set aside some time. A week should do it. Explore Mirromere, Calas, Armenelos, Glanduin, Dimrill Dale, The Misty Mountains, the Gulf of Lune, South Farthing … goodness, I’ve probably forgot some! I would highly recommend the balloon ride, but set some time aside and take your beloved, if I actually paid attention to the time correctly, it was a full 40 minutes …

Sweeping vistas, high mountaintops, flat wetlands, thick forest – it’s all there. I come back to these SIMs again and again and I’m sure if you’ve visited once, you’ll be back. No blog could adequately do them justice and this one isn’t even going to try.

Rosemist Isle

Quiet Sanctuary ... for Meeroos?

Quiet Sanctuary … for Meeroos?

If you like the idea of an escape that has a touch of the mystical and magical, then you’ll love Rosemist Isle. I like those things myself, and I love finding hidden places that the SIM creator has made an effort with, just for your entertainment. You’ll find those in Rosemist Isle too.

I haven’t taken pictures in the more hidden spots so you can discover them for yourself, and you certainly should. The more you wander here, the more you’ll find – and changing windlights will give you a whole different outlook in this SIM, maybe more so than others.

Temple Concerto

Temple Concerto

Some of the highlights are a standing stone ring; a galleon; some hidden “caves” and a piano and concert area. That’s not all. You’ll find lovely places for romance and some fun places to sit even if you are on your own. The landscaping is gorgeous and the sense of escapism to a realm that’s something special is all here. This is not the biggest place you’ll visit in SL, but there’s a lot packed cleverly and thoughtfully into its area. Highly recommended.

Imaginaria

Bridge for Sighs

Bridge for Sighs

If you like romance and natural beauty, then you’ll like Imaginaria. From the old-world lighthouse where you land to the countless bridges, seating, nooks and crannies all around the SIM, you’ll find somewhere to snuggle your sweetie. Each possible seating location is well thought out with a surprising variety of sits for both singles and couples, so you can find that perfect pose if you like photography – as well as find the perfect pose for a sunset kiss.

The vistas are stunning. You will find landscapes to test your SL lens and little corners for close-ups that will make you smile. If it is possible for a virtual location to have an ambience you can feel, then Imaginaria has one that’s light, welcoming and romantic as well as peaceful.

Guardian Gates

Guardian Gates

Find a great windlight even if you are only exploring and watch the sea sparkle in the distance as you wander through the lush grass and flowers. Change the world to gold and watch as a beautiful place is transformed into something quite different, but still beautiful – or add moonlight and see it again, totally different.

SL is escapism and I would recommend Imaginaria as a great place to escape – as well as a great place to get out your SL camera, play with your settings and fill up your Flickr or blog.

Paradiso

Paradiso LZ

Landing Zone

If you’ve seen my Flickr, you’ll know I do love this SIM (there are a couple more pictures on there, too). It’s so beautiful, even though some of the beauty comes from broken things. A whole lot comes from flowers, though .. if you’ve got hayfever, this probably isn’t somewhere you’ll want to visit.

When you land (unless it’s changed again) you’ll see an umbrella and in front of you a white door, standing all on its own. The door will take you to another world, and I suggest you go through it before you become entranced by the rest of the SIM and forget to look. Oh, you may well end up forgetting the rest of the SIM if you go through, too – so pick your poison.

The Grotto

The Grotto

Through the doorway is the most incredible grotto, full of water that’s reminiscent of places such as the Carribean and the Maldives. Hey, I’ve seen pictures, I know what they look like from those! There are statues and flowers and trees and gazebos and flowers and floating islands and flowers. Did I mention flowers? You can get an idea of scale by looking at the picture. The arrow is, not surprisingly, pointing to me. I’m short, but I’m not a Petite so …

When you’re done soaking up the beauty through the door, come back out and wander the sea. Little islands with strange statues and seating, half-ruined houses … all manner of wonderful things to explore and the whole SIM is an SL Photographer’s dream.

Oh, in case you wondered, you can walk on water at Paradiso. If nothing else, visit Paradiso to impress your friends without the aid of a HUD.
